Photos from the St. Mark's/St. John's Joint Liturgy Picnic July 25.
The new steeple was installed in April 2004. Please see photos in the June issue of The Church in Hiawathaland.
(And now on our home page!)
A brief history. St. John's has been in the building in which the steeple was installed since the 1890's. The building never had a steeple before, just a cross attached to the front side of the highest part of the building. A few years back the vestry explored putting a steeple on the church so one could tell that the building was a church. In 2001, the church had a new roof and siding installed and the addition of the steeple made the make over of the exterior complete.
In prior years, the office space in the attached 'guild hall' was remodeled into what is now the Bishop's Room where one can sit and reflect or have a meeting in a relaxed atmosphere. At that time a elevator was installed to meet the ADD Act and the old kitchen in the basement was converted into a computer room/office.
St. John's celebrates Epiphany with a dinner, and has a Shrove Tuesday dinner in which the price of admission is to bring a 'non' Episcopalian to dinner.
Through the years, St. John's had gotten smaller from the loss of members through death, but with the return of former members and families and new members along with being involved with Mutual Ministry, St. John's is a growing church.
