Camp New Day U.P.

A special healing and growth experience
for the children of
incarcerated persons
.

The goal for Camp New Day is to provide an exciting week of Christian camping experience for every one of the young persons (ages 9-14) who attends.

Camp New Day is a week-long experience tailored for children who have parents in prison.  It originated in the West Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church and was offered by the Detroit Conference for the first time in 2001.

Through the efforts of the Ecumenical Prison Ministry committee in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, the Camp New Day experience was first offered in the summer of 2002 in the beautiful lakes and forest area of the U.P.

Camp New Day U.P. strives to develop an identity as a group that lives by the two great commandments of Christ as models for life apart from the camp setting.
      - You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.
      - You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

            (Matthew 22:37-39)

It's one thing to live by Christian principles in the camp, surrounded by others of like mind. It’s an even greater challenge to take these principles home. Our campers gain not only cherished memories, but the awareness of the love and strength of Christ.

Camp New Day U.P. is designed to help children at risk break the cycle of fear and discover that Christ can lead them to lives of compassion and love for themselves, their parents and their neighbors.
